With Valentine's Day approaching, the smell or thought of rich, dark, chocolate may cross your mind. Or is it those sweet candy hearts with the cute messages, that you are dreaming of? Well, today in class we read about exactly what happens to the body when sugar is eaten. They also learned that the normal amount of sugar intake should be no more than 4 teaspoons a day. We also discussed how to find sugars hidden on the labels, with words that have -ose at the end, or syrup. Hmm…., so interesting. Students then prepared opinion pieces on whether it is ok to have candy occasionally. With strong emotions, students then partnered up to debate their ideas about these sweet treats, which seem to mark every holiday. |
